Govt to prioritise allocating fund for infra in next budget | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: State govt has decided to give high priority to allocation of funds for infrastructure works in the next budget. It has put the river linking, housing projects, drinking water schemes, education, health and industrial infrastructure on the top of its agenda for the next budget. The poll promises of NDA will also get reasonable allocations in the budget, sources said.
The finance department, which has kick-started the exercise for preparation of budget estimates for 2025-2026, has asked all special chief secretaries, principal secretaries, secretaries and HoDs to submit the budget estimate proposals by end of this month.
Principal finance secretary Peeyush Kumar has asked the departmental chiefs to ready the budget proposals with realistic goals. He wanted that the demands to be proposed to be achievable, keeping in view the state govt’s priorities.
“The annual budget of the state for FY 2025-26, will be presented to the legislature during Feb/March. The process of preparation of the budget estimates has to be completed by the end of Jan. The HoDs and estimating officers have to prepare and submit the budget estimates as per the clauses of AP budget manual and instructions given by govt,” said Peeyush.
The principal finance secretary asked officials to submit the proposals to finance department through online mode. The estimating officer shall furnish proposals for revised estimates for 2024-25, and budget estimates for 2025-26, under all the categories of heads.
Peeyush asked the officials to prepare the revised estimates for 2024-25 as realistically as possible instead of repeating previous year’s budget figures in a routine way.
“Progress of expenditure during first nine months of current financial year, expenditure likely to be incurred during the remaining months, additional funds proposed to be obtained as supplementary grants, re-appropriation or resumption of funds already made or proposed, new head of account sanctioned during the current financial year for booking expenditure on new schemes should be mentioned in the revised estimates,” he said.
“As the closing balance of the year is calculated with reference to the revised estimates, any significant variation between the revised estimates and the actual expenditure would upset the ways and means forecasts and hence the exercise should be meticulously done,” he cautioned.
