Five persons, including the driver of a vehicle, were killed and 20 others were injured in a pre-dawn road accident when a private bus crashed into a stationary lorry carrying sand near Ailapuram in Chivemla mandal, Suryapet on the National Highway 65 on Friday (January 10, 2025).
The deceased have been identified as 51-year-old Rupu Harijan, 46-year-old Sula Harijan, 61-year-old Sunamani Harijan, 17-year-old Prabath Harijan, all passengers, and 37-year-old bus driver Sunil Gorda. While three passengers and the driver died on the spot, another passenger succumbed while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.
The accident was reported around 4 a.m. on Friday when the bus operated by Gupta Travels was bringing about 23 labourers from Odisha to Hyderabad.
“They were all travelling to Hyderabad for work. The bus collided with a lorry parked on the roadside. The lorry driver has been detained, the bus driver was killed in the accident “ said an official in the Chivemla police. “The lorry carrying sand was parked because of flat tyre,” the official added.
Among other injured, four were in a critical state. They were shifted to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad. Others are undergoing treatment in the Government Area Hospital in Suryapet. A case has been booked and investigation has been initiated.
