Private operators increase bus fares by 40% | Vijayawada News

Visakhapatnam: Despite announcements of APSRTC and TSRTC about numerous special bus services between Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad from Jan 10 to 20, private transport operators across AP raised fares by approximately 40% on major intercity routes, particularly those connecting to Hyderabad.
APSRTC scheduled 7,200 special buses, with more than 1,000 operating from Hyderabad, Warangal, and other Telangana cities between Jan 9 and 13. The same number of services were allocated for return journeys from Jan 16 to 20. Meanwhile, TSRTC arranged 6,432 special buses, including roughly 1,000 to cities in AP.
According to information, approximately 45 lakh people are travelling across the state with family and friends for Sankranti celebrations. Due to extensive railway waiting lists, buses have become the primary transport option. The busiest routes for RTCs of both the Telugu states include connections between Hyderabad and cities like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, Kakinada, Narsapuram, and Machilipatnam.
Current AC sleeper fares from Hyderabad to Vijayawada range from 2,500 to 3,500, while fare from Hyderabad to Vizag costs between 3,500 and 5,000 as against 1,600-2,200. Routes to Kakinada, Bhimavaram, and Nellore command sleeper berth prices range between 2,700 and 3,500 as against the regular fare of 2,000.
T Narayana Rao, a software professional from Hyderabad, paid 3,800 for his journey to Srikakulam. Another K Rama Chandra Rao had boarded an RTC bus from Hyderabad to reach Vizag.
Upon reaching Vizag on Thurdsay, Rama Chandra said, ‘Though the RTC in both states announced special buses, we have to wait in queues at the bus stand for the buses. This generation of youth has no patience. They are purchasing tickets even though the price is high.’
