Today marks the beginning of the Pratishtha Dwadashi celebrations in Ayodhya, a significant spiritual event to honour one year since the installation of Shri Ram Lalla at the grand Ram Mandir.
Scheduled from January 11 to 13, this three-day event will bring together devotees, saints and spiritual seekers from across the country. The celebrations will include a variety of religious and cultural programmes at the temple premises which will highlight the deep devotion and cultural pride associated with this sacred occasion.
The Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav of Shri Ram Lalla was held on January 22, 2024, marking a historic moment for Ayodhya. But then why is January 11 chosen to commemorate one year of this milestone instead of January 22?
This decision to celebrate the anniversary on January 11 is rooted in the lunar calendar as Hindu rituals and festivals are traditionally observed according to lunar dates which hold deep spiritual significance.

In 2024, this special day fell on January 22 which marked the historic event. In 2025, as per the Hindu lunar calendar, Paush Shukla Paksha Dwadashi falls on January 11. This date holds deep spiritual meaning and is aligned with traditional Hindu practices.
Paush Shukla Dwadashi is also known as Kurma Dwadashi which commemorates Lord Vishnu’s Kurma avatar during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean). The connection of Lord Vishnu with this day makes it an appropriate choice for the Ram Mandir anniversary as Lord Ram is considered the seventh avatar of Vishnu.
Moreover, this date falls within the Shukla Paksha, the waxing phase of the moon, which symbolises growth, prosperity and auspicious beginnings. The phase is considered highly favourable for significant events.
According to Hindu tradition, King Dasharatha also prayed on Dwadashi to seek blessings for a son who was born as Lord Ram. Thus, the celebration on January 11 is in line with both tradition and spiritual significance.
The Ram Mandir, designed in the traditional Nagara architectural style, measures 380 feet in length, 250 feet in width and reaches a height of 161 feet. Within the temple, the sanctum sanctorum houses the childhood form of Bhagwan Shri Ram (the idol of Shri Ram Lalla), while on the first floor, there is Shri Ram Darbar.
