Hyderabad: Three persons were taken into custody by the Medak police on Saturday for allegedly raping a woman with learning difficulties. The crime came to light when the police were investigating a case of theft.
A few days ago, Chegunta police received a complaint from a resident that his cattle had been stolen by miscreants. As part of their investigation, the police reviewed footage from a nearby CCTV camera and came across an incident in which three men were seen forcibly taking a woman away.
The police launched a separate investigation to find out what had happened to the woman. By checking other CCTV footage, the police traced the victim to the side of the road. When they questioned her, they found that she was mentally unsound and unable to answer the police’s questions.
Upon further investigation, the officers nabbed the three suspects, who confessed to raping the victim. “The victim is from a neighbouring district. Without informing her family members, she left home and reached Medak. For the past few days, she had been wandering aimlessly and living by the roadside. Taking advantage of this, the three suspects forcibly took her away late at night,” a senior Medak police official told TOI.
The suspects worked as drivers in a local poultry farm. “The survivor was taken to a roadside where she was raped. Since it was night, there was no public movement,” the police said. The survivor was sent for medical examination.
Police have registered a case of rape and the suspects are expected to be arrested on Monday.
