Hyderabad: The state govt will start issuing fresh ration cards from Jan 26, with field verification activities scheduled from Jan 16-20.
During a meeting at the GHMC head office on Sunday, state BC Welfare and Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that after the field verification, the final list will be selected between Jan 20 and 24 on a ward-wise basis and eligible persons will be given ration cards and Indiramma houses.
Stressing the govt’s commitment to serve the deserving, the minister cautioned the people against political influence. He pointed out that the previous govt did not issue ration cards for a decade, but the present govt has taken a firm decision to provide them to the underprivileged, which was confirmed during the collectors’ meeting.
He also said that the state has allotted 3,500 Indiramma houses per constituency after completing the data collection from Jan 21 to 25. Half of the applications in Hyderabad came from people who own land but lack housing. The list of eligible beneficiaries will be finalised after the ongoing survey is completed.
The minister said that 10.7 lakh applications have been received in Greater Hyderabad, half of which have already been verified, and 9,913 applicants have land for houses. Given the land situation in Hyderabad, careful consideration needs to be given to helping the underprivileged, he added. Based on recommendations from public representatives, the state has devised a strategy to construct multi-storey buildings and develop slums into decent housing, he added.
