Acrimonious scenes were witnessed during the District Review Committee (DRC) meeting in Karimnagar on Sunday when BRS MLA from Huzurabad P.Kaushik Reddy engaged in a verbal spat with Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar and tried to disrupt the latter’s speech, causing a ruckus.

For a few minutes, the meeting attended by Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, IT and Industries Minister D.Sridhar Babu and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar plunged into chaos following the incident.

Pandemonium broke out when Mr.Kaushik Reddy rushed towards Dr Sanjay while the latter was speaking, accusing him of switching loyalty to the ruling Congress after getting elected on a BRS ticket in the 2023 Assembly elections. A wordy duel ensued between the duo, resulting in minor jostling. Police intervened and whisked away Mr.Kaushik Reddy from the conference hall.

Later, speaking to the media, Mr.Kaushik Reddy alleged that Mr.Sanjay Kumar defected to the ruling Congress from the BRS with sheer opportunism driven by selfish motives. He challenged him to resign, contest the election on a Congress ticket and get re-elected. Around 50% of farmers in Huzurabad Assembly constituency are yet to get the benefit of the loan waiver scheme and beneficiaries of the Dalit Bandhu scheme are deprived of financial assistance under the second phase of the scheme, he charged. “

Mr.Sanjay Kumar later told the media that, as an MLA, he was trying to highlight the issues of the constituency and seek funds through the Ministers but the aggressive behaviour of Mr.Kaushik Reddy was uncalled for. “I am working with the Congress government for the development of my constituency.”

He said Mr. Kaushik Reddy should know how the BRS encouraged defections from all parties during its two terms and even made those leaders Ministers. “He has no moral right to talk about MLAs joining other parties. He was only exposing the BRS and its faults,” the Jagtial MLA said.
