Telugu diaspora comes together to celebrate Sankranti

Hyderabad: The Telugu diaspora in Saudi Arabia came together to celebrate Sankranti in Dammam on Friday.
Not only expatriates from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, but the Indian community from other states also participated in the celebrations.
S Mallesh, founder of the Saudi Arabia Telugu Association (SATA), told TOI that this was the third time that the Sankranti celebrations were organised on a large scale. According to him, around 1,500 people took part in the celebrations this year.
Organised by SATA president Teja and several members of the association, the celebrations saw a variety of programmes, including cultural events and a cricket match.
Families participated in rangoli and kolatam (dance). In keeping with the festive spirit, traditional food was served to the gathering.
Bheem Reddy Mandha, president of the Emigrants Welfare Forum from Hyderabad, who also attended the event, said that such programmes help bring the Telugu community together to help and support each other in times of need.
The programme was also attended by guests from Bahrain and Kuwait.
