Dense fog makes driving risky on ghat roads | Vijayawada News

Visakhapatnam: Traffic movement is hit on the ghat roads in many parts of Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) and Parvathipuram Manyam districts of Andhra Pradesh as dense fog has been reducing visibility here for the past ten days. This has led to risky travel conditions on the roads.
Drivers of heavy vehicles such as lorries and buses have been facing trouble navigation through the roads blanketed by fog and mist during the night as well as morning hours. Some of them expressed that driving heavy vehicles during these hours of the days, is getting increasingly difficult due to minimum visibility. Fog persists on high altitudes and ghat roads till 10 am, they added. The inter-state bus drivers (operating between Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha) are also facing many difficulties on the Saluru and Sunki ghat roads due to fog as well as cold.
Dr A Appala Swami, associate director in RARS, Chintapalle, said that the mercury levels dipped to below 9°C in many parts of ASR district for the past four days.
“Chintapalle recorded 9.17°C on Monday (Jan 14) . The dense fog has been affecting normal life during morning hours. It is also affecting the road traffic for hours due to poor visibility,” he added.
It is noted that Chintapalle, Paderu, Araku Valley, GK Veedhi, G Madugula, Munchingiputtu and few other areas in ASR district have been in the grip of chill weather. With fog and temperature dipping upto 7°C, local residents are forced to stay indoors.
“We recently visited Lammasingi and Tajangi in ASR district. The dense fog blanketing the area reduced visibility to almost zero,” said D Sudhakar, a native of Vizag city.
