Visakhapatnam: International air cargo operations will soon resume at Vizag airport and Andhra Pradesh Trade Promotion Corporation (APTPC) has stepped forward to take charge of managing cargo operations.
According to experts, pharmaceutical products, textiles, and seafood such as shrimp, which previously lacked efficient transport options due to the absence of this facility, will now benefit greatly from this initiative. Lack of international cargo facilities since 2019-20, when Visakhapatnam airport last handled 470 tonnes of international cargo, had been a pressing concern in business circles.
Vizag MP M Sribharat had earlier brought the matter to the attention of the Union govt. He facilitated discussions with airport authorities and central committees, which ultimately paved the way for the revival of air cargo operations.
“The resumption of international air cargo services will be a significant milestone for the industrial sector. It will not only ensure efficient logistics solutions but will also showcase our potential on the global stage. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Union minister Rammohan Naidu and state minister Nara Lokesh for their support in making this vision a reality,” said Bharat.
