Heavy crowd at permanent and temporary ghats
There is a huge crowd at the permanent and temporary ghats including Sangam Nose in the holy city of Prayagraj. Many devotees were seen with moist eyes, overwhelmed by the divine atmosphere. Many people remained immersed in prayers, rituals and the feeling of unity. Lakhs of devotees had started taking the holy dip just two days ago, indicating that the 45-day Mahakumbh could surpass the crowd projections made by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2025.
This year’s gathering is bigger than ever
The huge turnout in the initial days suggests that this year’s gathering will be bigger than ever. On Paush Purnima, the Kalpavasis, known for their intense spiritual discipline, took a holy dip in the ‘Mokshadayini’ Sangam and began their spiritual retreat lasting 45 days.
Kalpavasis observe strict vows of celibacy, simple living and regular prayers during the Mahakumbh period. He prayed not only for his personal spiritual upliftment but also for the welfare of humanity. This year, the coincidence of Paush Purnima falling on Monday, an auspicious day for the worship of Mahadev, made the occasion even more spiritually significant.
Chants of Har Har Mahadev, Jai Shri Ram and Jai Bajrang Bali started.
While taking a dip at all the major ghats including Sangam Nose, devotees were seen chanting Har Har Mahadev, Jai Shri Ram and Jai Bajrang Bali. A large number of devotees came from various states including Bihar, Haryana, Bengal, Odisha, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
