HYDERABAD: Four members of the Daggubati family have been charged for trespass by cops based on a one-year-old complaint of a businessman who had taken their land in Film Nagar on lease to start a restaurant.
It was in Jan 2024 that businessman Nanda Kumar had filed the complaint accusing veteran film producer Daggubati Suresh, his brother and leading actor Venkatesh, and his two sons Rana and Abhiram of trying to evict him from the property leased from the family in 2014.
On Saturday, based on the direction a local court, the four were charged under Sections 448 (house-trespass), 452 (house-trespass after preparing to cause harm or commit other criminal acts), and 458 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint) of the IPC.
Nanda Kumar, incidentally, is one of the three accused in the alleged attempt to poach BRS MLAs for BJP in 2022 when the pink party was in power and is currently out on bail.
Kumar dispute with Daggubati family dates back to 2018
The dispute dates back to 2018. Subsequently, in Nov 2022, GHMC had served a demolition notice on his restaurant, Deccan Kitchen, while he was in jail in the alleged poaching case, calling the structure unauthorised.
He had then alleged that GHMC officials had gone ahead with the demolition despite the notice being challenged in the Telangana high court.
Later, in Jan 2024, Nanda Kumar again complained to cops alleging that the Daggubati family members had trespassed into the premises.
“A complaint was given to Film Nagar SHO and Hyderabad CP, but they did not take any steps,” the FIR registered by the Film Nagar police on Saturday stated.
Since the cops did not take action, he approached the XVII additional chief judicial magistrate on Dec 2024 alleging that the police had failed to act on his complaint. Following this the cops registered the case on Saturday based on the court’s direction.
As per Nanda Kumar, he and his partner Pramod Kumar’s company W3 Hospitality Services Pvt Ltd had started Deccan Kitchen af ter signing the land lease with Suresh and Venkatesh in 2014. The agreement involved two adjoining plots.
“The lease agreement was signed on Aug 26, 2014. Pramod paid an advance of Rs 10 lakh as a security deposit,” the FIR stated.
Pramod later left the project and Nanda Kumar said he had invested over Rs 10 crore to renovate the land and build the restaurant.
“While the lease was in operation, the complainant and Venkatesh entered into an MoU to jointly develop the property after the expiry of the lease,” the FIR added.
Nanda Kumar, however, has alleged that the Dagguabti family later tried to force him out even while the lease was in place.
“I had then (2018) immediately filed an injunction against the accused, which is pending before the IX additional chief judge, city civil court,” the complainant stated.
