After nearly 14 years and 1,53,000 km covered, our German beauty left home for good a couple of weeks ago.
It wasn’t an easy decision. Apart from the obvious sentimental connection, this was a solid car in good condition and running almost daily. But it was showing its age, clearly. I’ve described a couple of issues of overheating related to the coolant tank- the second of those was quite severe and the car broke down in traffic, something that has never happened before. The straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back was that the battery failure indicator started showing up which turned out to be an issue with the alternator. Luckily I was able to get it fixed but by then I decided enough is enough and listed it on Cars 24 and Spinny. Chose the former because of their professionalism and transparency.
I was hoping for a number close to 2L which would have been approx 20% of the original buy price in 2011. But ended up getting 1.5L. Cars24 made the entire process very simple and I had the money hit my account within hours of shaking hands over the final price. Then Fraulein drove awayinto the (literal) sunset.
One last pic of me with my baby, taken by the obliging Cars 24 representative:
