Hyderabad: The azure skies of Hyderabad provided the perfect canvas for the kites to soar! At one corner of the Secunderabad Parade Grounds, a series of kites in the shape of Captain Mario hung in the air on a single thread, as if welcoming kite enthusiasts for the International Kite Festival. Nearby, a huge kite in the form of a fish was sailing gracefully in thin air.

A short distance away, on the other side of the huge ground, a huge parachute was flying. On closer inspection, one can discern the thread and realize that a kite flyer was expertly handling the parachute-like kite. Besides the parachute, a huge ape-shaped kite appeared to flying languorously.

As the day progressed, the crowd of kite lovers and Sankranti festival revelers started to build-up at Secunderabad Parade Grounds. With parking provided at Gymkhana grounds, families in their four-wheelers started to arrive in large numbers on Monday evening.

“I could not visit the last two editions of kite festival but this year, we decided not to travel and celebrate Sankranti in Hyderabad. The decision was worth it, as my two children loved the collection of kites,” says Sujata, a resident of Marredpally.

Being organised by Tourism department, the event’s seventh edition also has sweet festival with traditional sweets from not just Telangana but from other states too. The entry is free on all the days for the event, to be held between 10.30 am and 8.30 pm is free of cost.
