Cong demands action against Kaushik; BRS condemns arrest | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A day after Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy pushed Jagtial legislator Sanjay Kumar on the dais of an official meeting in the Karimnagar district collectorate, the latter lodged a written complaint with Telangana Assembly speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Monday, urging him to take stringent action against Kaushik Reddy.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad assured Sanjay that he would look into the incident and take action accordingly. Sources close to Sanjay said that the Speaker assured that he would not hesitate to take stringent action if charges against Kaushik were proved.
“Kaushik behaved like a street rowdy while attacking me. Police cases were also booked against him. The investigation should be done to also know whether he indulged in such rowdyism by himself or at the behest of top leaders of BRS,” Sanjay said while speaking to the media.
Cong seeks expulsion
Senior Congress leaders said the possibility of Kaushik being suspended for a certain period from the assembly sessions or being expelled from the assembly cannot be ruled out. They said that Kaushik has been using derogatory language against chief minister A Revanth Reddy too. A few more Congress leaders are expected to urge the speaker to expel him from the assembly.
On Sunday, Kaushik confronted Sanjay on the dais during a review meeting in Karimnagar. He demanded that Sanjay first inform the gathering to which party he belonged, and then continue with his speech. The incident occurred in the presence of ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, D Sridhar Babu, and Ponnam Prabhakar, who found fault with the BRS MLA’s behaviour. The videos of Kaushik pushing Sanjay went viral.
Kaushik demanded that Sanjay, won from the Jagtial constituency on a BRS ticket in the 2023 assembly poll and later joined the ruling Congress, resign and contest a by-poll on a Congress ticket.
BRS slams Cong for arrest
On Monday evening, Kaushik was arrested by Karimnagar police while he was returning from Hyderabad. BRS leaders vehemently condemned the arrest. BRS working president KT Rama Rao slammed CM Revanth for supporting a turncoat MLA, Sanjay Kumar. “The arrest of Kaushik without seeking his explanation is a unilateral action and only reflects CM Revanth and Congress govt’s anti-democratic rule. It has become a routine now for Congress govt to arrest or book cases against BRS leaders almost every day,” he said.
BRS ex-MLA Rasamayi Balakishan launched a scathing attack on the Congress govt, charging it with filing false cases against Kaushik to harass him. “How can they arrest an MLA for questioning and demanding a turncoat legislator to contest on a Congress ticket?” he asked.
