Rajahmundry: This was one Sankranti Gandham Hemanth, a mechanical engineer from Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh, will never forget in a hurry.
Hemanth, who got married last year and works in Germany, had come home to celebrate his first Sankranti at his in-laws’ place. A big surprise was in store for the new son-in-law when he reached his in-laws’ place. A lavish spread, comprising of 666 varieties of cuisines from scross the country, welcomed him when he sat down for lunch.

The items included all varieties of vegetarian and non-vegetarian pickles, vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries, dry fruits, Konaseema special food items, fruits, soft drinks, ice creams, biscuits, natural drinks, and herbal drinks. Even natural food items like sugarcanes were served.
Not just that, prasadams (food offered to presiding deities and subsequently served to devotees) from all important temples like Tirupati, Srisailam, Annavaram, Simhachalam, Appanapalli and Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada were also served. About 40 cooks, helped by the family members, prepared the items from 3 am to 12 noon to be served for lunch.
The father-in-law, Janga Bujji, said he wanted to make it a memorable occasion for his son-in-law who was visiting them for his first Sankranti after marrying his daughter. He said he wanted to serve 365 varieties resembling 365 days of the year first. “Later I decided to serve 666 varieties as it is an auspicious number,” said Bujji, who is a businessman. His awe-struck son-in-law could not hide his emotions, as tears of joy rolled down his face for several minutes.
