Bidar robbery suspects open fire in Hyd, one injured | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: Hours after robbers shot dead a security guard and injured his colleague during a Rs 87 lakh heist at an ATM in Bidar in Karnataka, two persons opened fire at an employee of a private travel agency at Afzalgunj in the city on Thursday evening. Police said the suspects involved in the Bidar robbery could be behind the Afzalgunj shooting incident.

Afzalgunj police the incident took place around 7.15 pm. The Bidar robbery happened around 11.30 am. The two accused came to Afzalgunj between 3 pm and 4 pm. As Bidar is less than 150 km from Hyderabad, police suspect that the duo carried out the robbery in Karnataka and reached the city for their onward journey to Raipur.
Two persons went to Roshan Travels at Afzalgunj and booked tickets to Raipur. All the passengers were supposed to board a pick-up minibus first before being taken to Bowenpally, where the Raipur-bound bus was scheduled to start.
“Generally, if we find any passenger suspicious, we ask them to show contents of their luggage. First, a passenger, who declared that he was a policeman, was checked. Our staff, Jahangir, insisted that he show his bag, as it is their norm. After confirming that he was a policeman, we moved towards two other passengers, who appeared suspicious,” said Mozzam, the brother of the travel agency owner.
Jahangir asked the two passengers to open their bag. “One of them took out a bundle of cash and offered it to him, who refused to take it. Immediately, the accused pulled out a gun and opened fire at Jahangir, who suffered two bullet wounds. Jahangir fled to save himself. The accused too followed him and fled towards Osmania General Hospital (OGH),” Mozzam said.
Special teams were formed by the police to trace the accused. The incident created panic in the area. The policeman who was on the bus was also from Karnataka.
