Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy with officials in New Delhi at a review meeting on the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II allocation of Krishna water to Telangana, on Wednesday.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy instructed the officials concerned to put up a strong case before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II for the allocation of Krishna water to Telangana under Section 3 of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act (ISRWDA), 1956.
He recalled that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 provides for project-wise allocation of water between the riparian States. The Apex Council set up under the Reorganisation Act too supported the claim for allocation of water between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh according to Section 3 of the ISRWDA.
He said the Supreme Court did not entertain the plea of the neighbouring State on further terms of reference of the KWDT-II.
The Chief Minister made the remarks during a review meeting with senior officials in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, D. Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari and others were present.
He expressed concern that the neighbouring State government is taking up works on the Godavari-Banakacherla project without obtaining prior approvals from the authorities concerned. Letters should accordingly be addressed to Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, besides the river management boards of Krishna and Godavari rivers, conveying Telangana’s objections to the project.
In this context, he recalled that the AP Reorganisation Act mandated the two successor States to inform the river management boards as well as the governments about their proposed projects ahead of taking up works on them. The Chief Minister wanted the study on the impact of the Polavaram project on Bhadrachalam town with the IIT-Hyderabad should be completed in a time-bound manner while steps initiated to secure permissions for Sammakka Sarakka barrage and Palamuru-Ranga Reddy projects should be speeded up.
