The reported decision of the Union Cabinet on Thursday clearing a ₹10,300 crore package for the revival of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is being hailed by leaders of various political parties.
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat in a tweet on ‘X’ expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Steel Minister H.D. Kumarswamy and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for allocating ₹10,300 crore towards revival of the iconic Vizag Steel Plant.
The Vizag Steel Plant is not just a facility; it is the pride of our region and a symbol of resilience for the people of Uttarandhra. For decades, it has been a cornerstone of our industrial development and an emotion deeply rooted in the hearts of every Vizagiite. He thanked Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring the significant allocation.
CPI(M) leader Ch. Narasinga Rao, while welcoming the decision, said that this was not a permanent solution. He averred that allocation of captive mines, running the plant to full capacity or merger of the plant with SAIL was the only permanent solution.
TDP State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao hailed the decision of the Centre.
Jana Sena Party (JSP) Political Affairs Committee (PAC) Member Kona Tata Rao thanked the Centre for honouring the sentiment of the Telugu people on VSP.
Meanwhile, it’s learnt that the Centre is likely to make an official statement on the development on Friday morning.
