At the premium end of mainstream SUVs in India, we have mid-size SUV segment that clocked 25K+ units last month. This segment comprised of offerings like Mahindra Scorpio and XUV700, Tata Harrier and Safari, MG Hector and Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, VW Taigun, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Citroen C5 Aircross.
Mid-Size SUV Sales Dec 2024
At the top of the sales charts, we have Mahindra Scorpio (Classic + N) with 12,195 units sold last month. Scorpio accounted for 47.95% of total sales of mid-size SUVs. When compared to 11,355 units sold in December 2023 and 12,704 units sold in November 2024Mahindra Scorpio registered 7.4% YoY growth, gaining 840 units in volume and a 4.01% MoM decline, losing 509 units in volume.
In 2nd place, we have Mahindra’s XUV700 with 7,337 units sold and accounted for 28.85% of this segment’s total sales. It registered a 24.76% YoY growth and a 19.37% MoM decline, when compared to 5,881 units sold a year ago and 9,100 units sold a month before.
Right after XUV700, we have its arch-rival?? Tata Harrier and Safari. Tata sold 1,385 units of Safari and 1,307 units of Harrier for a total of 2,692 units. Both Safari and Harrier sales fell into the red completely, registering decline in numbers across both YoY and MoM analysis, when compared to sales performance in December 2023 and November 2024.
MG Motor sold 1,373 units of Hector and Hector Plus combined and was the first mid-size SUV on this list to register a MoM growth of 24.14%. YoY, Hector saw a 37.13% decline. Despite being smaller in size, Hyundai Alcazar has managed to carve out a decent position in this segment with 1,342 units sold and saw 40.67% YoY growth and 37.11% MoM decline.
Citroen C5 Aircross Sold 1 Unit
Among the mid-size SUVs that sold under 1,000 units, Volkswagen Tiguan was at the top with 195 units sold last month. Even though there was a 29.09% YoY decline, Tiguan registered 146.84% MoM growth in December 2024. In 8th place, we have Jeep Compass with 175 units sold, but sales fell 28.86% YoY and 6.91% MoM.
Hyundai Tucson saw 33 units sold last month and Citroen was at the bottom as it sold just 1 C5 Aircross SUV last month. In total, the Mid-size SUV Sales Dec 2024 charts recorded a total of 25,434 units. As opposed to 24,613 units sold in December 2023 and 28,332 units sold in November 2024, the segment saw 3.34% YoY growth and 10.23% MoM decline.
