Bobby Deol’s Telugu debut with Daaku Maharaaj was meant to connect with a pan-Indian audience with an earthy, massy subject. He was excited to work with Bobby Kolli and share screen space with Bala Sir. But the film doesn’t deliver.

Bobby as the villain in Daaku Maharaaj is okay but lacks depth. His performance doesn’t leave a mark, the character is predictable and one dimensional.

He is visible on screen but doesn’t lift the film or create any emotional connect with the audience.

After Animal, Bobby Deol has been more active in South cinema but his villainous roles are becoming repetitive. His performance in Kanguva was panned and now in Daaku Maharaaj he follows the same villainous arc.

Despite his charm the role lacks freshness and the film doesn’t break new ground.

The direction by Bobby Kolli is the major culprit here. The character could have been more menacing and memorable if the director had presented it with more depth.

Instead it’s too routine and Bobby’s performance is underwhelming and the film lacks the required intensity.

Daaku Maharaaj doesn’t deliver. Bobby is visible but the character is not strong and innovative, so it’s a disappointment. He has Alpha and Thalapathy 69 in pipeline, his career will continue but this debut doesn’t give him the launch he was looking for.
