Nizamabad:Traffic police penalised 19 people and sentenced five to imprisonment for drunken driving during a special drive on Friday. The offenders were identified during drunken driving tests conducted by traffic police.
Traffic CI P. Prasad provided counselling to the accused before presenting them to Second Class Magistrate Noorjehan, who imposed a total penalty of ₹43,500 on the 19 people.
The magistrate also sentenced Gene Sunil of Gajulpet to one-day imprisonment, while Kadari Vinod of Yellammagutta, B. Praveen of Dubba, Ram Reddy, Gangasthan, and Golikar Dinesh of Nagaram received two-day imprisonment each.
With a rise in drunken driving incidents, police intensified checks and registered 24 cases during the operation.
