The Nidamarru police of Eluru district arrested 24 persons for allegedly organising and participating in obscene dances in a birthday party at Bavaipalem village.
The indecent dances were arranged in an old rice mill on the village outskirts during the birthday party of a local resident on December 12, said Eluru district Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kumar.
“The accused allegedly engaged two transgender persons of Bhimavaram, who performed the dances. Following a complaint, the Nidamarru police registered a case,” said Eluru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. Sravan Kumar, who is investigating the case.
“In all 24 accused, including the organiser, 21 participants and two transgender persons were arrested and produced in the court on Thursday. The accused were booked under Section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and other charges,” the SP said.
