Hyderabad: Telangana is experiencing its coldest Jan in five years, with temperatures plummeting to record lows across multiple districts.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Asifabad reported the lowest temperature of 13.1° Celsius in the past 24 hours. In Greater Hyderabad, Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru recorded 15° Celsius, marking the city’s lowest temperatures.
The three-day forecast predicts the chill will continue, with minimum temperatures statewide ranging between 12° Celsius and 15° Celsius. In Hyderabad, areas like Secunderabad and Kukatpally may see lows of 13.2° Celsius.
Last Jan, temperatures averaged between 16° Celsius and 18° Celsius across the state, significantly higher than this year’s figures. Hyderabad’s average minimum last year was 16.5° Celsius, while this year, many localities have seen temperatures consistently dip below 15° Celsius.
Experts attribute the cold snap to northeasterly winds and clear skies, which allow heat to escape at night. They warn the cold wave could persist for up to a week before gradually subsiding. The India Metrological Department (IMD) has urged residents to take extra precautions to stay warm, particularly during early mornings and late evenings.
