Visakhapatnam: Traffic snarls were reported on several highways in the state on Thursday as people started heading back to Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, Guntur, Chennai, and Bengaluru from their hometowns after Sankranti celebrations.
Vehicles moving from parts of Andhra Pradesh to Telangana were caught up in huge traffic, particularly near toll plazas and key junctions.

As per reports, vehicular traffic was moving at snail’s pace near the Nandigama-Keesara and Jaggayyapet-Chillakallu toll gates.
Most bus bays and railway stations in north Andhra Pradesh witnessed huge rush of passengers. Several people complained that private bus operators hiked ticket fares substantially.
The prices of tickets to places like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, and others have been hiked by 90 to 100 percent, said Nagaraju T, a resident of Vizag city.
The transport department officials said their teams have been issuing challans against private bus operators in the past few days under the MV Act for fleecing passengers by collecting exorbitant fares and for violating other norms like operating unfit buses and those without proper documents. The officials informed that they issued 87 challans against private bus operators on Thursday for various violations and imposed a fine of Rs 4.5 lakh. The raids will continue for some more days in the state, they added.
