Government Degree College founder Raman dies in US


Nizamabad:B.N. Leela Raman, 94, the founder of the Government Degree College in Kamareddy, passed away on Friday due to age-related ailments. Leela was the wife of B.N. Raman, who served as the collector of the undivided Nizamabad district from 1963-64.

Leela Raman previously worked as an English newsreader for All India Radio before becoming a homemaker after her marriage. She played a key role in establishing the Government Degree College in Kamareddy, which has since provided higher education to thousands of students. In 2019, she and her late husband attended the college’s anniversary program as chief guests. B.N. Raman passed away in 2022.

Leela, who had been residing with her son in the US, passed away there on Friday. Alumni of the Kamareddy Government Degree College remembered her contributions to education and the community on Saturday, expressing their condolences.
