The Telangana government has decided to present the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards annually, starting from Ugadi this year. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu made this announcement at the Gaddar Cine Awards Committee meeting held at the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Secretariat on Saturday (January 18).
The awards aim to recognise and praise the best films produced in Telugu language, promoting national integration, and cultural, educational, and social relevance, the Deputy CM said. The government plans to organise the award distribution programme in a grand manner, on par with national-level programmes. Mr. Vikramarka directed the officials to design a logo for the award, enhancing the image of cultural icon Gaddar. He also emphasised the efforts to make Hyderabad a global destination for film production. The Gaddar Awards will be presented in three categories — Feature Films, Children’s Films, and Books on Telugu Cinema. Each award will comprise a cash prize and a certificate of appreciation.
The Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the previous government, led by BRS, neglected the film industry, with no awards distributed in the last 10 years. The decision to institute the awards in the name of revolutionary balladeer Gaddar was announced by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in January last year.
Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Chairman Dil Raju, Awards Committee Chairman B. Narsing Rao, and members Jayasudha, Tammareddy Bharadwaj, and Harish Shankar attended the meeting.
