KTR comes under fire for his comments on crop loan waiver

Congress leaders, including Chief Whip in the Council Patnam Mahender Reddy and Pargi MLA T Ram Mohan Reddy, addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday (January 18, 2025).

Congress leaders, including Chief Whip in the Council Patnam Mahender Reddy and Pargi MLA T Ram Mohan Reddy, slammed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao for his remarks on the crop loan waiver. They charged KTR with making false statements against the Revanth Reddy government, unable to stomach the successful implementation of the crop loan waiver.

Addressing media at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday (January 18), MLC Mahender Reddy stated that the Congress government in the State was delivering on its poll promises one-by-one, adding that the remaining promises would also be fulfilled after January 26.

Mr. Reddy refuted KTR’s charges, made during a Rythu Maha Dharna at Shabad of Chevella constituency in Rangareddy district on Friday, that a woman farmer Janamma had not benefited under crop loan waiver and pointed out that Janamma was ineligible for the waiver as her sons benefited from the scheme. The eligible beneficiaries under the scheme would be identified through review meetings in all districts, he added.

Taking strong exception to KTR’s remarks, Pargi MLA T. Ram Mohan Reddy challenged KTR for a discussion on the crop loan waiver implemented in his constituency. “Are you ready to discuss how much was waived off in each village, in every mandal of the constituency?” he asked. Mr. Ram Mohan claimed that ₹294 crore were waived off under the crop loan waiver in Pargi constituency alone, while a total of ₹21,000 crore had been waived in the State.

Further, the Congress government was set to provide ₹12,000 per acre under Rythu Bharosa soon, while the BRS regime offered only ₹10,000 under Rythu Bandhu, the Parigi MLA added.

Tandur MLA B. Manohar Reddy alleged that KTR was trying to mislead people to gain an advantage in the local body elections. The Congress government is working sincerely to implement the six guarantees he added. Vikarabad DCC president Challa Narsimha Reddy and Arya Vysya Corporation chairperson Kalva Sujatha accused KTR of trying to grab people’s attention with sensational comments.
