“Mercury levels may cross 45°C at many places in Rayalaseema and some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) during the first week of May,” said Dr S Karuna Sagar, scientist at IMD-Amaravati.
“More places in the Rayalaseema and CAP are expected to come under the grip of heatwave from Saturday due to prevailing dry wind,” he added.
The IMD forecasted that heatwave conditions may prevail in Rayalaseema region from April 28 to May 1. Similarly, hot and humid weather conditions will prevail in CAP and there are few chances of thunderstorms in the evening hours during the period. The weather department has urged the people to not step out of their houses between 11 am and 3 pm considering the prevailing hot and intense humid conditions.
Though day temperatures in many parts of the coastal region have not crossed 42°C, high humidity levels are giving coastal residents a tough time. Relative humidity is hovering between 60 and 70 percent.
Few parts in the Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district, received thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday evening. The locals said that they have been witnessing two types of weather conditions—hot and humid from 11 am to 3 pm and experiencing some respite in the form of thunderstorms in the evening hours.
