Continuing what it started five years ago, Dobara, a non-governmental organisation working for well-being of senior citizens, is organising a tour for the elderly to the All India Industrial Exhibition (Numaish) this year as well. It will coordinate with the Exhibition Society for the programme.
Founder-Trustee of the NGO Mateen Ansari said the tour, ‘Special age friendly visit’, would be organised on January 21. It will begin at 2 p.m. and end by 7 p.m., before the crowds begin to swell. The NGO is borrowing 100 wheelchairs from various hospitals in the city and keeping them ready at the exhibition entrance.

The elderly, all below poverty line, will be picked up in cars from various homes for the aged and brought to the exhibition. A total 200 volunteers from the National Cadet Corps and schools and colleges are being enlisted to help the senior citizens throughout their visit.
Snacks are being arranged twice during the tour with the help of city-based commercial organisations, Ms. Ansari said. “We have also check-listed senior citizen friendly toilets and are organising our own help desk with paramedics. Train ride will be provided by the society for free,” she said.
The society will also provide parking for all the cars that bring the elderly and offer entry through the VIP gate, which is disabled-friendly.
