Hyderabad: The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes received over 500 representations regarding the change of names and addition of synonyms for eight BC sub-castes.
The commission issued a notification on Jan 3 seeking objections, if any, on the change of names sought by BC sub-castes. The deadline for submission of representations ended on Saturday.
“The commission will examine these affidavits thoroughly and make a decision on the change of names of some castes, especially those that are derogatory in society, without disturbing the culture of the castes of Telangana. In future, students, youth, and employees belonging to the respective castes will not be subjected to any feeling of inferiority,” said BC Commission chairman G Niranjan.
