Hyderabad: Fee reimbursement funds will be released by the state govt by March 8, Telangana Higher Education Council (TGCHE) chairman V Balakista Reddy stated on Sunday.
In a meeting with representatives of the affiliated colleges of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) on its campus, Reddy assured the managements that steps were being taken to address the shortage of teachers in govt educational institutions and the financial problems and challenges faced by the managements due to the refund of fees.
Reddy, who is also the vice-chancellor of JNTUH, also spoke about the outdated syllabi of the undergraduate courses and the strict guidelines of the regulatory bodies. “Though engineering courses update their syllabi every three years as per AICTE guidelines, other courses have not undergone such revisions in the last decade. The syllabi of other courses should also be updated regularly to keep pace with global developments and industry needs,” he added.
At the meeting, the university also proposed to introduce scholarships to reduce the financial burden on students. “We want to create a separate budget for scholarships so that at least some students benefit,” he added.
Speaking to TOI, the VC said that the meeting is being held to ensure that the managements are given a platform to directly air their grievances and also involve them before taking any decision. “We want to have an inclusive approach so that all stakeholders are involved and work together to improve the quality of education in the state,” he added.
