Vijayawada: In shocking turn of events, youngsters addicted to drugs being coerced into criminal activities has come to light in Narasaraopet of Palnadu district.
According to allegations made by distressed parents, local residents Shahrukh and Farooq have been targeting minors, luring them into ganja addiction, and subsequently using them for thefts and drug transportation. The parents claim that their children were forced to steal mobile phones and assist in drug-related activities. However, police found another side to the incident.
The incident came to light when a teenager named Jameer (19) caught by police a few months ago, revealed details of his involvement with the gang when he was a minor. After serving time in a juvenile home, Jameer was released but was again approached by Shahrukh and Farooq. The gang allegedly threatened to kill him if he refused to comply with their demands. Frustrated and fearing for their child’s safety, Jameer’s parents lodged a complaint with the police, exposing the gang’s activities.
Narasaraopet DSP K Nageshwara Rao said Jameer and his mother alleged that Shahrukh and Farooq forced her son to consume ganja and commit thefts. During the course of investigation, we found that in the past Sheikh Khader, Sheikh Subhani, along with the minor boy, were involved in ganja peddling in the area and were closely associated with Shahrukh and Farooq. A violent altercation on Dec 31 last year led to two cases being registered against Shahrukh and Farooq, who were later arrested.
DSP acknowledged that Jameer is also accused in an election-related case, a dacoity case, and the current case. However, he hinted that Jameer’s claims might be part of a ploy to avoid consequences. “If Jameer’s statements contain any factual basis, we will take appropriate action against the accused,” he said.
DSP confirmed that Shahrukh, Sheikh Khader, and others had multiple cases against them. Shahrukh, for instance, was involved in an assault case in 2023, while Sheikh Khader faces eight cases, and Sheikh Subhani has three. The DSP indicated plans to open rowdy sheets against the accused and ensure that their activities are curtailed.
DSP assured a thorough investigation and appropriate action.
