TikTok Stops Working In the USA

Popular Chinese social media platform TikTok is on the verge of being banned in the United States. The app has already disappeared from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the US, and many users are reporting that it stopped working last night. TikTok has around 170 million users in America.

On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld a federal law forcing TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to either sell its operations to an American company or completely shut down its operations in the country due to potential security concerns of the nation. As a result, TikTok stopped working in the United States.

Reportedly, TikTok users in America are getting the notification, “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned,” when they try to access the app.

Donald Trump, who is set to take oath as American president tomorrow, said that he would “most likely” give TikTok a 90-day relief from the ban after he assumes office on Monday. However, he didn’t confirm this. So, TikTok’s fate remains bleak in the United States. Notably, India banned the same app in 2020 citing security concerns.
