Hyderabad: Ahead of the Union Budget 2025-26 preparations, Telangana has sought 40,000 crore over the next four years. The state has also requested that it be treated on a par with Andhra Pradesh in terms of allocation.
One of the key proposals is to revive the Musi river by diverting water from the Godavari, which would involve transferring 20 tmc of water for Hyderabad’s drinking needs, at an estimated cost of 7,440 crore. The state has requested central support for this initiative.
The Musi riverfront development project, which includes the construction of Gandhi Sagar, Musi sewerage projects, 11 heritage bridges, and other related works, is estimated to cost 14,100 crore, for which Telangana has sought central assistance. The state has submitted proposals advocating for similar funding to be included in each of the next four budgets to drive its development. This financial support is seen as crucial for Telangana to contribute to the central govt’s goal of building a $5 trillion economy.
Additionally, the state has called for the establishment of central and Navodaya schools in Telangana, along with the release of funds pending under the bifurcation Act. Telangana has also informed the Centre that it is ready to implement centrally-sponsored schemes, though the previous govt’s diversion of funds has led to lack of current funding from the Centre. If the Centre allocates funds for various ongoing schemes, Telangana has pledged to match these with its own contributions. The state is seeking equitable treatment, requesting similar funding levels as AP.
Telangana has also urged the Centre to grant necessary permissions and oversee the construction of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) North and South projects. The state is developing radial roads, which, upon completion, will support the growth of the pharmaceutical industry, industrial hubs, logistics parks, and recreational areas. The projected cost for the RRR initiative is 34,000 crore.
In addition to the Musi project, the state has requested support for metro rail development, Future City, RRR initiative, radial roads, and funding for sports and skill universities.
