Mahakumbh Fire News: Prayagraj Massive fire breaks out in maha kumbh mela latest news update

Prayagraj Mahakumbh Fire Breakout Latest News: A massive fire broke out at Maha Kumbh Mela on Sunday evening leaving at least 40 thatched huts and six tents gutted. There was no report of any major casualty.

“The fire has been extinguished, and there is no information about any casualty. The situation is under control,” Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar said.

According to a statement issued by the government, the fire broke out around 4:10 pm in the kitchen of the Geeta Press camp near Karpatriji’s camp in Sector 19, situated between the old and new railway bridges in the Mahakumbh Mela area.

It quickly spread and gutted huts and tents, belonging to Shri Sanjeev Prayag. Fire brigade personnel, police and administrative teams rushed to the spot and evacuated the area.

It was successfully brought under control by 5:00 pm.

“Fifteen fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the blaze… Everyone was safely evacuated from the site,” Chief Fire Officer (Kumbh Mela) Pramod Sharma said.

Additional Director General (Prayagraj), Bhanu Bhaskar said that the fire was swiftly extinguished using modern equipment.

Suspecting that a cylinder blast may have caused the fire, Mela administration removed all gas cylinders from the affected area to prevent further escalation.

The initial probe confirmed that the fire started due to gas leak while making tea with a small cylinder in the kitchen of the Geeta Press camp.

Amid the chaos, one person injured his leg while fleeing and fell unconscious. He has been admitted to Swaroop Medical College in Prayagraj and his condition is stable and not life-threatening, said officials.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathwho was in Prayagraj on Sunday, visited the affected area and took stock of the situation. Officials said the chief minister briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the incident.

The 45-day Maha Kumbh, expected to draw around 40 crore pilgrims, began in Prayagraj on January 13. It will conclude on February 26. As per officials, 1.6 lakh tents and 50,000 shops have been set up for the event.

On Sunday alone, around 46.95 lakh pilgrims visited the Sangam, bringing the total footfall to 7.72 crore, so far.
