Vijayawada: Acting on intelligence gathered over the past 40 days regarding ganja and narcotic drug crimes in Guntur, the Prohibition & Excise Department made a significant breakthrough on Sunday and nabbed three accused persons.
According to Maraiah Babu, assistant excise superintendent, Guntur, the arrests were made during a routine check on the road from Ravindra Nagar to Shyamala Nagar, where the accused were found with a parked two-wheeler in an open area. Upon spotting the excise team, the accused attempted to flee but were stopped with the help of local police. Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to possessing cocaine and confessed to buying it from unknown individuals and selling it at high prices to sustain their livelihood.
The team recovered 8.5 grams of cocaine, a two-wheeler, and three mobile phones from the accused. The arrested individuals were identified as Sheikh Dadawali (27), Sheikh Qasim Peera (31), both residents of Nallacheruvu in Guntur town, and Sheikh Sameer Baji (34), a resident of Nambur Subhani Colony in Guntur town.
The accused were charged under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and the seized property was documented as evidence. The accused were subsequently sent to judicial remand by the court.
Police also found that the accused persons were selling cocaine at prices ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per gram. Police urged the public to report drug-related activities to 14500 helpline.
