Bike taxi, food delivery platforms must ensure workers follow road rules: Telangana cops

Hyderabad: To promote discipline among food delivery and bike taxi personnel, cops have recommended implementing GPS-based speed monitoring, AI-enabled violation alerts and encouraging citizens to report violations through dedicated apps.
During a meeting with online food delivery and bike taxi platforms, Cyberabad joint CP (traffic) Joel Davis emphasised the need for them to conduct regular road safety sessions for workers. He said that Cyberabad traffic police will also organise traffic safety workshops.
He said delivery platforms should actively track and address traffic rule violations by riders to ensure compliance with safety norms. They were also told to conduct mandatory alcohol checks at the start and end of shifts. Violators should be penalised by reducing assignments, lower incentives and termination for repeated offences, while riders with good records should be rewarded and given recognition to encourage safe behaviour, cops said.
Cops pointed out that gig workers often violated traffic rules to meet tight deadlines, with common offences including riding without helmets, driving rashly or on wrong side, drunken driving and unauthorised parking. These often led to accidents, even deaths, cops said.
