Hyderabad: A video showing BJP MP Eatala Rajender slapping a real estate agent in Pocharam municipality went viral on Tuesday, sparking widespread discussion. The footage, which surfaced online, captured a tense exchange between Eatala and the agent in Ekshila Nagar in Medchal Malkajgiri district.
Rachakonda police registered FIR against Eatala after getting a complaint from the real estate agent.
Sources said that Eatala acted after receiving complaints from locals about a real estate broker who had been allegedly harassing them by illegally seizing their lands.
The incident unfolded during a meeting Eatala organised with the broker, where tensions quickly escalated. The confrontation culminated in the Malkajgiri MP slapping the agent, followed by his supporters and others physically confronting the individual.
Eatala explained that many poor residents of Narapalli and Korremula villages had bought land and built homes as far back as 1985. However, a troubling situation had emerged as 149 acres of unused land had been resold multiple times, causing unrest among the rightful owners. The MP said the matter had become a significant concern for the community.
Following the altercation, Eatala criticised the inefficiency of smaller districts, stating that despite their intended purpose to improve administrative accessibility, they had failed to deliver. He highlighted that local collectors and police officials were rarely available to meet with ordinary citizens, whereas real estate agents appeared to have their ear.
The BJP leader announced plans to write to chief minister A Revanth Reddy, as well as to the district collector, police commissioner, and other ministers to address the issue. He reassured the public that the BJP would continue to support the underprivileged sections.
The incident has since sparked heated debates on social media and within BJP circles, especially with Eatala emerging as a prominent contender for the state party chief post.
Before this incident, he expressed to the media that the BJP would form the next govt in Telangana, claiming that both the Congress and BRS have lost the trust of the people.
