Hyderabad:The Civil Supplies Hamalis Union thanked the government for agreeing to increase the wage rates of the workers. The decision cames after the workers struck work for seven days.
The AITUC, which heads the union, in a statement said that it had to resort to the strikes as the wages were not duly increased after a two-year interval. It said the welfare measures which were there earlier regime have not been implemented.
The union said the decision was reached after the civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and former MLA Chada Venkat Reddy backed their demand. The step was taken after they sought withdrawal of the strike. It also thanked civil supplies principal secretary D.S. Chauhan.
Union state general secretary S. Balaraj sought issuance of a GO increasing the wage rates from `26 to `29. “The state government in line with the Supreme Court judgement mandating equal pay for equal work should pay women the same. Wages of workers working in 5,000 metric tonnes, 10,000 and above godowns should be increased by `6,000, `6,500 and `7,000 respectively.”
The union thanked the government for promising to increase bonus payment from `6,500 to `7,000 due for Dasara but sought revision of `200 being given for stiching charges for blouses of women.
There has never been such delay in issuing a GO increasing wages and payment of dues and sought steps to see that they don’t have to resort to strike again. Failure to mention the payment of Rs 20,000 for holding final rites of workers is a dampener. The amount should be increased to `30,000, he said.
