Hyderabad: A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice G Radha Rani on Tuesday directed the Union home ministry (MHA) to file its counter in two weeks as a last chance in a PIL filed by KA Paul, president of Praja Shanthi Party and Global Peace Foundation. The bench posted the matter to Feb 4 for the next hearing.
Appearing as a party-in-person on Tuesday, KA Paul contended that rape cases were rising. In the PIL, he urged the court to direct the state and central govts to allot properties owned by rape convicts to the survivors as compensation within three months from the date of conviction.
He also urged the state govt to issue instructions to all police stations mandating that FIRs in rape cases be registered immediately, complete the investigation within 30 days, and trial within 90 days by establishing separate courts.
He also sought directions to the Telangana govt to submit a detailed report on the number of pending rape cases and the measures taken to expedite their resolution. Additionally, he requested the National Commission for Women to conduct a comprehensive investigation into systemic failures leading to increased crimes against women in Telangana and recommend necessary reforms.
