Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner P. Sampath Kumar inspected Neelamma Vepachettu, Venkateswara Metta, Govinda Road, Kumari Veedhi, Turner’s Chowltry and a few other areas as part of inspection in Ward No. 33 under Zone IV, on Monday. He was accompanied by Ward Corporator (JSP) B. Vasantha Lakshmi.
During the inspection, the civic chief observed that there were a number of water pipeline leakages. Directing the staff concerned to rectify them, he has also asked them to ensure there is no contact between water pipelines and sewage pipes. He also asked authorities to explore the possibility of converting Kummari Veedhi Sachivalayam building to a community hall. He was informed by locals that the drinking water supply in the ward was irregular.
He inspected the Anna Canteen near Turner’s Chowltry and enquired how many people were visiting the canteen. The staff at the Anna Canteen said that at least 500 people were having food thrice a day. They added that many people were returning hungry due to food running out. The GVMC commissioner directed the authorities to increase the quantity of food.
