Vizag cops recover Rs 90.5 lakh stolen property in December

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police achieved a significant milestone in Dec 2024 in terms of crime prevention and detection and recovered stolen goods, including gold, bikes, mobile phones, and valuables worth over Rs 90.53 lakh last month.
Visakhapatnam police chief Shanka Brata Bagchi said that a total of 116 property offences were reported in Vizag last month. The police detected 67 cases, arrested 91 property offenders, recovered over 1.01 kg of gold ornaments, 2.5 kg of silver ornaments, Rs 12 lakh cash, 10 bikes, one car, 329 mobile phones and other items, all worth over Rs 90.53 lakh.
Out of the 67 detected cases in Dec, 2024, three were dacoity cases, three robbery cases, 25 house burglary cases, six snatching cases and 19 cases for theft.
A total of 4,369 mobile phones (stolen and lost) worth Rs 6.55 crore were recovered throughout 2024 in the port city. The police handed over the stolen property to its rightful owners during the recovery mela on Tuesday.
The police stated that they are implementing a multi-faceted approach to prevent future crimes, installed 461 CCTV cameras across the city, significantly enhancing surveillance capabilities. The department also conducted 118 crime awareness meetings to educate the public about criminal activities and prevention strategies. Furthermore, they implemented special patrolling in crime-prone areas.
