Adilabad farmer suicide case closed, bank waives outstanding loan

The Adilabad Town police have concluded investigation into the case of Jadav Devirao, 50, a resident of Bela mandal of Adilabad, who was found dead at the ICICI Bank branch in Adilabad Town on Saturday.

According to Adilabad Superintendent of Police Gaush Alam, the farmer took his life due to family issues. “He was dealing with family problems and was stressed about a pending operation of his wife. As per the bank records, he had taken a loan of about ₹3.5 lakh under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Loan Scheme in 2019 and was since paying the instalments regularly until October 2024 when he missed it. For this an automated call reminder was initiated by the bank,” explained the official.

The official added that the call data records, and CCTV footage were thoroughly analysed and no trace of harassment by bank officials was found. Devirao had availed a loan for his wife’s treatment who was suffering from a chronic kidney ailment. After her first operation did not yield results, the family was preparing for a second operation.

The case was closed by the police citing suicide as the reason. Following the incident, the bank waived the deceased’s outstanding loan on humanitarian grounds, the official informed.
