Police, Prohibition and Excise authorities suspect the black jaggery was being used in the manufacture of illicitly distilled liquor
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police along with the Prohibition and Excise Department officials caught six persons on charges of illegally storing and transporting black jaggery at LB Nagar on Wednesday. Officials seized 40 kg of black jaggery and Rs 1 lakh in cash.
Four persons identified as Shivakanth, Mohd Baba, Arun Naik and Heera Singh were arrested. Acting on a tip-off, the authorities conducted searches of three auto trollies and recovered the contraband material. Authorities suspect the black jaggery was being used in the manufacture of illicitly distilled liquor.
The suspects procured jaggery from Karnataka and illegally stored it in godowns in Pahadishareef on the city outskirts and sold it to illicit liquor makers.
Following the seizure, the Saroornagar excise police registered a case and started an investigation.
