There is certainly a difference that I can notice after getting the ceramic coating done.

If you think choosing which car to buy is a tough decision, wait till you decide to go for PPF/Ceramic.
My Mahindra Thar Roxx was delivered in December. I was also interested in protecting the shine of my car. PPF was not in the scene due to the budget, also if PPF is not tucked properly it doesn’t look good.
For ceramic, I was confused. I have decided to maintain the car myself so I was wondering if the coating would be worth it.
One of the members got the ceramic coating done from Lords of Detailing, Gurugram. This detailing studio is located near my place. The feedback from a fellow member and the proximity to my place encouraged me.
I visited the studio and interacted with the co-owner, Minny. She answered all my queries. I was satisfied with the response and the facilities at the studio so went ahead with ceramic coating.
My interaction with the other owner Binny was also great. He explained the process in detail. It took 1 day to get the car done. I visited a few times in between and found things going smoothly.
It depends on the condition of the car but overall these were the steps taken for my car. I am writing in layman’s terms and what I have understood:
- Compounding – This is the process of polishing to remove grime/dirt
- General wash – Pressure wash, Shampoo, Pressure wash
- Pre-coating – This is wiping with IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) so that any residue is removed and coating can form the bond.
- Ceramic coating – This is the main coating. This is a silica-mixed chemical which is put over the paint. The other chemical evaporates and we are left with a layer of silica (glass) over the paint. This makes the surface hydrophobic.
- Infrared baking – This is to expedite the process of making the coating dry. If left to dry naturally there is a chance of dust and other particles mixing up.
There is certainly a difference to notice after ceramic coating. I guess in the end it depends on the budget and your passion whether to get the ceramic coating done.
