Tension prevailed as group of five minor girls have tried to escape from the Government Child Home for Girls, on Visakha Valley Road, alleging harassment from the staff over there, here on Wednesday.
The girls tried to jump over the fence and they alleged that the staff have been giving them sedatives though it was not required. They also alleged that despite requests, they were not being sent to their parents. The videos of the girls escaping from the home have gone viral on the social media.
The Girls Home is a custodial institution to lodge the girl children in the age group of 7 to 18 years who are destitute, orphans etc., who need care and protection and conflict with law as per the orders of the Child Welfare Committee, Civil Courts, High Court. The present strength of the home is 60.
The authorities in a release on Wednesday night said that the five girl children were admitted to the home with the orders of the Child Welfare Committee, Krishna, West Godavari, Srikakulam and on the orders of the High Court. From the last two days, the girls want to leave the home and have not been taking medicines prescribed by the doctor.
The police, led by an ACP rank officer, lady police constables, women and child welfare, and other members came to the home and counselled the children and kept them in home safely.
