Minister for Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies Uttam Kumar Reddy said that around ₹70 crore would be released to complete the Narayanpur reservoir works in Gangadhara mandal of Karimnagar district on a priority basis to provide water to the ayacut of the project within one year.

He was speaking at the gram sabha held at Narayanapur village on Wednesday. The gram sabha was organised as part of the ongoing exercise to identify the beneficiaries of Telangana government’s four flagship schemes – Indiramma Atmeeya Bharosa, Rythu Bharosa, New Ration Cards and Indiramma Illu (houses), slated to be launched on Republic Day.

Earlier, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who is the in-charge Minister for Karimnagar district, accompanied by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, visited the Narayanpur reservoir.

He said that justice will be done to the local people with regard to the submergence of lands under the reservoir. The previous BRS government had spent lakhs of crores on irrigation projects but provided water to a meagre ayacut. The Congress government is focusing on optimising the irrigation benefits with less expenditure in a cost effective manner, he asserted.

He reiterated that the benefits of the four flagship schemes would be extended to all eligible people.

Mr. Prabhakar said that the decade-long wait of people for new ration cards is set to end. All eligible people would get new ration cards, he said.

Choppadandi MLA Medipally Satyam said the then Congress government initiated the Narayanpur reservoir under the ‘Jala Yagnam’ to meet the irrigation needs of farmers in the upland areas of Choppadandi Assembly constituency. Though 90% of the works of the reservoir had been completed during the then Congress government, the BRS government had neglected the remaining 10% of works during its nearly decade-long rule, he charged.

He said that the Narayanpur reservoir works would be fully completed to realise its irrigation potential. Collector Pamela Satpathy and others spoke.

Later, the Irrigation Minister participated in a gram sabha held at Jaina village of Dharmapuri mandal in Jagtial district. He said that the distribution of the new ration cards will kickstart on January 26 and it will continue till the last eligible beneficiary is covered under the flagship scheme. The ration cards will be issued in a transparent manner to every eligible person, he said, accusing the previous BRS government of issuing a meagre 40,000 ration cards during its 10-year rule in the past. Each white ration card holder will be provided 6 kg of fine rice after issuing the new ration cards, he added.

Telangana government whip and Dharmapuri MLA A. Laxman Kumar was present.
