Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam district administration, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), and DHAN Foundation on Wednesday inaugurated ‘Project CASCADE‘, an initiative aimed at the sustainable management of water bodies through a community-driven approach. The project focuses on ecologically sustaining a chain of water bodies, with active involvement from tank user members in restoring and maintaining these vital resources.
During the inauguration, representatives from DHAN Foundation presented the cascading approach and its community-centric design.
Vizag MP M Sribharat commended the project for its potential to benefit farmers and local communities reliant on the tanks. He urged community members to actively participate in ensuring sustainability.
Visakhapatnam district collector Dr. M N Harendhira Prasad said that the govt is dedicated to implement sustainable water management practices. He elaborated on the district administration’s efforts to revive water commons and effectively utilise resources.
VMRDA metropolitan commissioner K S Viswanathan explained that the project encompasses 16 tanks, rather than focusing on a single water body. He highlighted the project’s low-budget, high-efficiency model.
Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao reflected on the legacy of the Neeru-Chettu programme initiated by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He praised the collaboration between the district administration, VMRDA, and DHAN Foundation in driving Project CASCADE forward.
