Usually during festival seasons, private bus travels tend to hike up the ticket prices in order to cash in on the mad rush exhibited by travellers to reach their hometown. This phenomena is particularly prevalent during the Sankranti festival season.
However, APSRTC has successfully countered this mechanism by enforcing a new model this Sankranti festival season. Thanks to the successful implementation of this model, RTC did not just make good profits, but also offered economical commute options to natives.
The communication from RTC read “APSRTC would like to express its gratitude to our beloved passengers who travelled with us in “SANKRANTHI” operations.”
During the Sankranti season RTC ran additional five lakh kilometres through the added fleet of government buses. Additional busses were specially added to the fleet in anticipation of Sankranthi rush.
Thanks to this initiative, RTC generated Rs 23.7 crore revenue this festival season with an occupancy rate of 89%. The best part about this is that RTC did not hike the ticket prices by even a single rupee. All the additional revenue was generated through, specially added buses and additional kilometres.
This model is not just beneficial for the government agency, but also a lifeline for travellers who are otherwise obliged to spend thousands of rupees on private travels. This is the kind of cutting-edge initiative that is expected from RTC in order to come up with feasible solutions that largely help the common public.
